Description
Juicy cheeseburger served on a toasted bun with lettuce, pickles, and awesome sauce.
Ingredients
Awesome Sauce:
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons sour cream
- 2 tablespoons ketchup, or Sriracha if you like it spicy
- 2 tablespoons pickles, minced
- 2 tablespoons red onion, grated
- 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- sea salt, to taste
- black pepper, freshly ground, to taste
Burgers:
- 1 pound ground beef, with at least 20% fat
- Sea salt
- 4 slices american or cheddar cheese
- 4 potato buns, toasted
- White onion, sliced
- 2 pickles, thinly sliced
- ¼ head iceberg lettuce, finely shredded
Instructions
-
Make the Awesome Sauce:
Whisk all sauce ingredients in a bowl until smooth. Taste and adjust seasoning. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use. -
Shape the Patties:
Divide the beef into 4 equal portions. Gently shape into patties without overmixing. -
Sprinkle each side with salt and pepper. Grill or sear in a hot skillet over medium-high heat for 4–5 minutes per side. Add cheese during the last minute so it melts over the top.
-
Toast the Buns:
Optional—but highly recommended. Toast cut sides of buns on the grill or in a skillet until golden. -
Assemble the Burgers:
Spread awesome sauce on the bottom bun. Add patty, lettuce, pickles, onion, more sauce, and the top bun. Serve hot.
Notes
Yes, you need the fat. That 80/20 ground beef ratio is where the juiciness lives. Lean meat just won’t give you the same result.
About the awesome sauce: it’s a little sweet, a little tangy, and ridiculously addictive. Want it spicier? Swap in Sriracha or hot sauce instead of ketchup.
Pro tip on buns: Toasting them makes a huge difference. The crispy edges + juicy burger = everything.
